# Shelly Presence Gen4 goes on sale in the US as a multi-zone Matter-over-Wi-Fi sensor

Shelly's mmWave presence sensor went on sale in the US on October 15 for $84.99. It joins Matter controllers over Wi-Fi without a hub and can expose up to ten room zones, but the zones need setting up first.

Shelly launched its Presence Gen4 radar sensor in North America on October 15, 2026. [Shelly's US store](https://us.shelly.com/products/shelly-presence-gen4-white) lists it in stock at $84.99 in white or black, and the company's [launch announcement](https://www.iotforall.com/news/shelly-launches-presence-gen4-in-north-america-intelligent-occupancy-detection-f) says Micro Center, Best Buy, Newegg and Amazon will carry it "soon". Shelly's EU store has listed the same model, S4SN-0U61X, since March 2026, now at €69.90. It uses 60 GHz mmWave radar to tell whether someone is in a room even when they sit still, and it reaches Matter controllers over Wi-Fi.

For a US Matter home, the useful change is a multi-zone presence sensor that does not need Thread. The sensor holds a [Matter certification](https://csa-iot.org/csa_product/shelly-presence-gen4-2/) as an occupancy sensor over Wi-Fi, and Matter is its default firmware, so a Matter controller can add it directly without a Shelly hub or Thread border router. The closest rival, [Aqara's Spatial Multi-Sensor FP400](/devices/aqara-spatial-multi-sensor-fp400), costs about $5 less in the US and can share up to eight zones, but it runs on Thread.

## The zones need setting up before Matter sees them

A Matter controller sees one room zone by default. The sensor supports [up to ten zones](https://us.shelly.com/blogs/documentation/shelly-presence-gen4) in all, and each added zone appears as a separate component. You draw the zones, blind spots and room boundary in the Shelly app or the sensor's [local web interface](https://kb.shelly.cloud/knowledge-base/shelly-presence-gen4-web-interface-guide), where a Matter setting also chooses how many zones to expose. That makes it possible for a sofa zone to dim the TV lights while a desk zone keeps a lamp on, as long as your controller handles the extra components sensibly. Shelly does not show how Apple Home, Google Home or the others name or group them, so set up one sensor and check the zones in your own app before buying several.

Two other details are less clear-cut. The built-in light sensor reports dark, twilight or bright in Shelly's own interfaces, and Shelly does not say whether that reading is shared over Matter. Shelly's people-count figures also disagree: the store and launch announcement say ten people, while the specification table on that same store page says six. Treat it as a presence sensor, not a people counter.

## Power and placement come first

Presence Gen4 has no battery. It needs continuous 5 V USB-C power at 1 A, and Shelly warns against multi-port chargers, charging stations and fast chargers whose output can fluctuate, saying they may damage the sensor. The box includes a USB cable, but Shelly's parts list has no power adapter, so budget for a dedicated 5 V adapter and a visible cable to the mounting point. Shelly rates the wall-mounted field of view at 140 degrees across a room of up to 26 × 26 ft (8 × 8 m), but still detection reaches only about 10 ft (3 m) from the sensor, so place it within that distance of where people actually sit.

The Zigbee radio is an alternative, not a second connection. Five quick presses of the button switch the sensor from its default Matter firmware to Zigbee and back, so choose one platform before setup.

## Which sensor to pick

With no Thread border router and one open-plan room that needs separate signals, Presence Gen4 is the simpler US option. With Thread already running, the FP400 does the same zone job for slightly less and documents a Matter light reading. If one occupied-or-empty signal is enough, the USB-powered [Meross MS600](/devices/meross-ms600-presence-sensor) costs about half as much over Wi-Fi, and the battery-powered [Aqara FP300](/devices/aqara-presence-multi-sensor-fp300) avoids the cable but needs Thread. Shelly has not given a date for the Micro Center, Best Buy, Newegg and Amazon listings, so for now its own US store is the only place to buy.
