# Aqara's U600 brings a Matter keypad lock to UK multipoint doors

Aqara's Smart Lock U600 went on sale in the UK on October 14 for £229.99. It swaps the handles on uPVC, composite and timber multipoint doors for a Matter-over-Thread keypad lock with Apple Home Key, but you still lift the handle to throw the bolts.

Aqara's Smart Lock U600 went on sale in the UK on October 14, 2026. It is a Matter-over-Thread lock for the multipoint doors common on British uPVC, composite and timber front doors. It replaces the inside and outside handle panels and the cylinder, and keeps the existing multipoint lock body in the door. When we checked on October 15, [Aqara's official store](https://eu.aqara.com/products/smart-lock-u600-uk) listed it at £229.99 and available to order, [Amazon UK](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0H8P6XDDK) showed it in stock, and [Aqara UK Shop](https://www.aqara-shop.co.uk/product/aqara-smart-lock-u600/), the distributor-run store, listed it at £229 on back-order.

That design is different from Matterhome's other UK picks. Aqara's own [Smart Lock U200](/devices/aqara-smart-lock-u200) and Yale's [Linus L2 Lite](/devices/yale-linus-l2-lite) are inside-mounted motors that turn a euro cylinder. The U600 puts a fingerprint reader, keypad, NFC reader and a keyhole for the two supplied backup keys on the outside panel, and it supports Apple Home Key.

## Lifting the handle is still your job

The U600 does not motorise a multipoint door. Aqara's [FAQ](https://www.aqara-shop.co.uk/product/aqara-smart-lock-u600/) says many British multipoint locks need the handle lifted to push out the bolts along the door edge, and that this is set by the existing lock, not the smart lock. Aqara says lifting the handle throws those bolts but does not necessarily complete the U600's electronic lock. With auto-lock on, the lock secures itself after a countdown you set; with it off, lifting the handle only throws the bolts, and you lock with the lock button, the app or an automation.

That matters most for remote use. A lock command from Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant can complete the electronic lock, but it cannot throw bolts nobody lifted. Aqara also does not say whether the U600 reports locked when the handle was never lifted. If the reason you want a smart lock is to secure the front door from bed after someone forgot, this design still depends on that person lifting the handle on the way in.

Auto-lock is also where a Matter-only setup falls short. Aqara's [manual](https://www.aqara-shop.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Smart_Lock_U600_UM_EN.pdf) says that if you connect the U600 straight to a third-party ecosystem without Aqara Home, Auto-Lock settings and Night Latch mode are unavailable. Aqara Home reaches those settings over Bluetooth without an Aqara hub when you are near the door. Add the lock to Aqara Home first, then add it to your Matter platform with the code on the inside panel; if you also bind it to an Aqara hub, that code stops working and you generate a new pairing code in Aqara Home instead.

## The Matter, Home Key and hub requirements

The U600 uses Thread and Bluetooth, with no Wi-Fi. To add it to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant, you need a Thread border router and Matter controller from that ecosystem, and your home network must have IPv6 enabled. In Apple Home, a Thread-capable HomePod mini, HomePod (2nd generation) or Apple TV 4K serves as both the border router and the home hub that Home Key requires. Aqara's product pages describe Home Key as a tap of an iPhone or Apple Watch with Express Mode and list no UWB radio, so plan on tapping the panel each time.

Lock codes are one place where ecosystems differ. The manual warns that some Matter platforms cannot add door lock passwords, while Aqara's FAQ says Apple Home can set them remotely. An Aqara Thread hub such as the Hub M3 adds remote features inside Aqara Home, including remote scheduled passwords and Aqara automations. Matter control in another ecosystem does not need one.

Android owners get a narrower wallet story. Aqara says the U600 supports Samsung Wallet's Digital Home Key when the lock is connected through SmartThings, and its Amazon listing says that needs a Samsung hub. The U600 is [certified for Aliro 1.0](https://csa-iot.org/csa_product/aqara-smart-lock-u600/), the CSA's standard for phone-wallet door keys, and on October 13, 2026 Google added certification guidance for Aliro locks that support Google Wallet home keys to its [developer release notes](https://developers.home.google.com/matter/release-notes). Aqara lists no Google Wallet support, and neither company has said whether the U600 will get a Google Wallet home key.

## Measure the door and call the insurer

The U600 fits a door 40 to 80 mm thick, with a backset of 35 to 70 mm, 72 to 92 mm between the handle spindle and the cylinder centre, and a handle that opens with less than 60 degrees of travel. The last compatibility check comes partway through fitting: with the U600's spindle in Aqara's test position, pressing the handle fully must retract the latch, and if it does not, Aqara says to return the lock. Fitting removes the existing cylinder. Aqara's certification marks for the U600 include CE and EN 16867, the European standard for electronic door handles, but no TS 007 or BS 3621 rating, so check with your insurer before fitting it to a door your policy covers. Aqara says most installs take 15 to 30 minutes with a screwdriver and no drilling, and that the original hardware can go back on when you move.

The U600 makes the most sense for an Apple Home household with a compatible multipoint door that wants fingerprint, PIN and Home Key access on the handle itself instead of a cylinder motor inside and a separate keypad outside. At Aqara UK Shop it costs about £49 more than the [U200+ Kit](https://www.aqara-shop.co.uk/product/aqara-smart-lock-u200-kit/), which is listed at £179.99, but it is one device to fit and power instead of two. Skip it if your door falls outside Aqara's measurements, your insurer requires a particular cylinder, or you want a lock that can secure a multipoint door without anyone lifting the handle. Android owners outside SmartThings should treat it as a Matter keypad lock with no phone-wallet key for now.
