# Aqara's Matter-over-Thread outdoor plug arrives in Europe, but IKEA's costs less

Aqara launched the Outdoor Plug H2 EU in Europe on October 20: an IP44, 16 A Matter-over-Thread plug with energy monitoring and a Zigbee mode for Aqara hubs. IKEA's TOFSMYGGA does the same Thread job for much less, so Aqara's case rests on that Zigbee mode and a higher heat rating.

Aqara launched the Outdoor Plug H2 EU (model SP-P06E) in Europe on October 20, 2026. It is a splash-resistant adapter for a garden, patio or balcony socket, and it joins Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant directly over Matter and Thread with no Aqara hub in between. It is rated for 16 A and 3680 W and measures energy use. [Aqara's EU store](https://eu.aqara.com/en-eu/products/outdoor-plug-h2-eu) lists it at €32.99 and showed it available to order on October 26, and [Amazon Germany](https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0H25BTFYH) also lists it.

IKEA already sells a plug for the same job. The European [TOFSMYGGA](https://www.ikea.com/de/de/p/tofsmygga-steckdose-schwarz-fuer-draussen-smart-10622065/) (E2435-EU) is also an IP44 Matter-over-Thread outdoor plug rated for 16 A and 3680 W, IKEA advertises energy monitoring for it, and IKEA Germany listed it at €12.99 on October 26. Both plugs need a Thread border router for your Matter platform and a Thread mesh that reaches the outside wall. If Thread does not reach that far, the [Shelly Outdoor Plug S Gen3](/devices/shelly-outdoor-plug-s-gen3) and [SONOFF S61s Outdoor](/devices/sonoff-s61s-outdoor-plug) use Matter over Wi-Fi instead, and [Eve Energy Outdoor](/devices/eve-energy-outdoor) is a Thread socket an electrician installs. The Aqara's indoor sibling, the [Power Plug H2 EU](/devices/aqara-power-plug-h2-eu), has the same list price but is an IP20 plug for dry rooms, so check which H2 a listing offers.

## Where the Aqara earns its higher price

The first difference is Zigbee. The plug runs in one of two modes, and you can switch later. In Thread mode it pairs as a Matter device with your platform's controller and border router. In Zigbee mode it needs an Aqara Zigbee hub, which can then bridge it into Matter platforms. Several features on Aqara's [product page](https://www.aqara.com/en/product/outdoor-plug-h2-eu/) need that Zigbee mode and hub: the adjustable maximum load, the status light settings, and a removal-protection setting that stops the button from triggering a reset. Aqara says status light settings will come to Thread mode in a future update, without giving a date. Aqara's site also says Matter-over-Thread accessories join the Aqara Home app through an Aqara Matter controller such as the Hub M3, so a home without Aqara hardware should plan to run this plug from its own Matter app.

The second is heat. Aqara rates the plug for -20 to 50°C. IKEA rates TOFSMYGGA for -25 to 40°C and warns against leaving it in direct sunlight, so a south-facing wall in summer favors the Aqara, while IKEA has slightly more margin in a hard frost.

Aqara sells a standard version and an RGB version through different sales channels, and both are [separately certified](https://csa-iot.org/csa_product/aqara-smart-plug-5/). [HomeKit News](https://homekitnews.com/2026/10/20/aqara-introduces-outdoor-plug-h2-eu-with-thread-zigbee/) describes the RGB version as adding a multicolor LED ring around the power button. Its settings follow the status light into Zigbee mode for now, so the standard version is the sensible pick for a Thread-only home.

## Energy readings and pumps

The compliance files behind both Matter certifications, [Aqara's](https://csa-iot.org/csa_product/aqara-smart-plug-4/) from October 17, 2025 and [IKEA's](https://csa-iot.org/csa_product/tofsmygga-plug-black-outdoor/), declare Matter's electrical power and energy measurement clusters, which carry live watts and cumulative energy to controllers that read them. Each file covers a certification family as well as the exact plug, so treat that as a strong indication of energy reporting over Matter. Neither company lists which Matter apps display the readings. For its S61s Outdoor, SONOFF documents energy readings in Home Assistant and SmartThings and only switching in Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa. Expect a similar split with both plugs until the companies or the platforms say otherwise.

Aqara suggests pool pumps and patio heaters as uses but gives only the overall rating, with no separate figure for motor loads. IKEA limits TOFSMYGGA to 300 W for motors. Ask Aqara for a motor rating before putting a pump on the H2. On either plug, IP44 also depends on what you plug in: Aqara asks for an IP44-rated appliance plug, and IKEA's rating holds only with the lid closed or an IP44 appliance plug, so an ordinary indoor lamp plug leaves that connection without the splash protection the rating suggests.

For a Thread home that only needs to switch outdoor lights or a heater, TOFSMYGGA does the job for well under half the price. Buy the Outdoor Plug H2 EU instead if you already own an Aqara hub and want the load limit and indicator settings in Zigbee mode, or if the socket sits on a sunny wall where the 50°C rating gives more margin. Two questions remain open: which Matter apps display the plug's energy readings, and when Aqara's undated status light update reaches Thread mode.
