# Apple Home Collection: which LG and Schneider accessories use Matter

Apple's new LG and Schneider lineup pairs a Matter lock, thermostats and sensors with four HomeKit cameras. Everything sets up with an iPhone, most features need an Apple home hub, and sales start in December in North America.

Apple announced [Apple Home Collection](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/10/introducing-apple-home-collection-a-new-lineup-of-smart-home-accessories/) on October 13, 2026: nine smart home accessories made by LG Electronics and Schneider Electric's Schneider Home brand and sold through Apple. LG supplies a video doorbell, three cameras, a smart deadbolt, a thermostat and a temperature sensor. Schneider supplies a thermostat and a room sensor. Sales start in December in the US and Canada, with some products held until early 2027. The UK gets only LG's cameras and doorbell, and nothing in the lineup is listed for the EU.

For Matter buyers, the collection splits in two. Apple calls the LG lock, both thermostats and both sensors Matter compatible. The four LG cameras, including the doorbell, are HomeKit Secure Video cameras: Apple's store lists them as HomeKit compatible with Thread and Wi-Fi, and neither Apple nor LG describes them as Matter devices. Treat the cameras as Apple Home products, and the lock and climate products as Matter devices built first for Apple Home.

| Product | US price | Connections | Power | Sold in |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| LG Video Doorbell Wired | $249.95 | HomeKit, Thread, Wi-Fi | Doorbell wiring | US, Canada, UK |
| LG Floodlight Cam | $399.95 | HomeKit, Thread, Wi-Fi | Hardwired mains | US, Canada, UK |
| LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In | $299.95 | HomeKit, Thread, Wi-Fi | Plug-in | US, Canada, UK |
| LG Indoor Cam Plug-In | $199.95 | HomeKit, Thread, Wi-Fi | USB-C | US, Canada, UK |
| LG Smart Deadbolt Lock | $349.95 | Matter, Thread, Bluetooth | Four AA batteries | US, Canada |
| LG Smart Thermostat | $199.95 | Matter, Thread, Wi-Fi | HVAC wiring | US, Canada |
| LG Temperature Sensor | $39.95 | Matter, Thread | CR2477 coin cell | US, Canada |
| Schneider Home Smart Thermostat | $199.95 | Matter over Thread | HVAC wiring | US, Canada, early 2027 |
| Schneider Home Room Sensor | $39.95 | Matter over Thread | Coin cell | US, Canada, early 2027 |

Prices and regions come from Apple's announcement; connection and power details come from Apple's [Home Collection store listings](https://www.apple.com/shop/home/accessories/apple-home-collection) on October 13, 2026, and Apple's statement that every device in the collection supports Thread. [Schneider says](https://www.se.com/ww/en/about-us/newsroom/news/press-releases/Schneider-Electric-and-Apple-introduce-new-Smart-Thermostat-for-Apple-Home-Collection-and-Power-Mount-for-Apple-HomeView-6ace265b43c902c2d70a3335/) its thermostat and room sensor reach Apple Stores "beginning early next year," so they miss December. [LG's release](https://www.lg.com/us/newsroom/home-appliance/lg-electronics-announces-new-smart-home-accessories-designed-in-collaboration-with-apple-for-the-apple-home-collection) does not say which of its products arrive late.

## The lock is the strongest Matter product

LG's Smart Deadbolt Lock is the product to watch if you want Matter hardware. Apple says it is Matter compatible, supports Aliro and works locally, so core access functions continue without an internet connection. Hands-free entry uses Ultra Wideband: with an Apple home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, the door unlocks as you approach. Tap to unlock, a PIN pad and a hidden backup key cover the other cases, and a built-in sensor reports whether the door is open, closed or being tampered with.

The requirements are Apple-shaped. The [lock's store listing](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/hsnc2zm/a/lg-smart-deadbolt-lock-essence-silver) requires an iPhone on the latest iOS for NFC pairing and a Thread-enabled Apple home hub such as HomeView, HomePod mini or a Thread-equipped Apple TV 4K. Hands-free unlocking needs a UWB-capable iPhone or Apple Watch. The same listing rates battery life at six months on four AA batteries, with USB-C emergency power if they run flat. On that figure, plan on two battery changes a year.

At $349.95, the LG lock sits between the [Aqara Smart Lock U400](/devices/aqara-smart-lock-u400) and the [Schlage Sense Pro](/devices/schlage-sense-pro), two Matter-over-Thread locks that already ship with Apple hands-free entry. The LG lock cannot arrive before December and is limited to the US and Canada.

## The thermostats are Matter, with Apple-only extras

Both thermostats cost $199.95, are Matter compatible, and use on-device wire detection for DIY installation. Apple says they work with a broad range of HVAC systems; the Schneider model is designed for most standard 24 V residential systems. Homes without a common wire may need a C-wire adapter, sold separately for $24.95 from either brand. Apple's store lists the [Schneider Home Smart Thermostat](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/hsmv2zm/a/schneider-home-smart-thermostat) as Matter over Thread. Apple's [LG Smart Thermostat](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/hsmz2zm/a/lg-smart-thermostat) listing names Matter, Bluetooth 5.3 and 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. LG's release describes the thermostat and its LG sensors as a Matter over Thread system, but does not say whether the thermostat itself joins Apple Home over Thread or Wi-Fi.

The headline climate features belong to the Home app. Adaptive Temperature uses your iPhone's location to switch between home, sleep, away and extended-away states without a schedule; it needs a home hub and location services. Clean Energy Guidance can shift heating and cooling to cleaner, cheaper hours in the contiguous US with a compatible utility plan. Both thermostats can also read temperature and humidity from the sensors already inside HomeView, HomePod and HomePod mini, which gives an existing speaker a second job as a room sensor.

The standalone sensors are more flexible than their branding suggests. Apple's listing says LG's $39.95 [Temperature Sensor](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/hsn02zm/a/lg-temperature-sensor) pairs with the LG thermostat or "other Matter-compatible thermostats through the Home app." Schneider's $39.95 [Room Sensor](https://www.apple.com/shop/product/hsmw2zm/a/schneider-home-room-sensor-3%E2%80%91year-battery-life) runs on a coin cell for up to three years by Schneider's estimate and can also pair through the Schneider Intelligence Hub.

If you need a Matter thermostat for this winter, Apple Home already works with shipping options such as the [Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)](/devices/google-nest-learning-thermostat-4th-gen). The Schneider model is an early 2027 product.

## The cameras stay inside Apple Home

LG's four cameras record up to 2.5K video and use Apple's recognition of people, familiar faces, pets, vehicles and packages, with 10 days of event history in iCloud+ and no separate camera subscription. The iCloud+ tier still matters: the 50 GB plan covers one camera, 200 GB up to five, and 2 TB an unlimited number. A doorbell, a floodlight and two cameras need at least the 200 GB plan. Apple Intelligence video descriptions and natural-language search also need an eligible iCloud+ plan and an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. Apple says built-in storage keeps the cameras recording if Wi-Fi drops.

Recording depends on a home hub: HomeView, HomePod or Apple TV 4K. The doorbell chimes through HomeView, HomePod and HomePod mini, and the Home app combines it with the LG lock into a single front-door view. Buy the cameras only if Apple Home is where they will live.

## Setup assumes an iPhone

Every product sets up with a tap from an iPhone running the latest iOS and is managed in the Home app, with no LG or Schneider account required. Apple says the products update their network credentials automatically when the home Wi-Fi changes. A household without an iPhone has no documented way to set these products up. Apple Retail also offers ADT professional installation in the US for an additional charge starting this fall, and the floodlight's listing recommends a licensed electrician because it connects to household mains wiring.

For the Matter products, Apple, LG and Schneider have not said how they behave in Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant. Matter normally lets a device join more than one controller, but the launch material does not document that path or which features would carry over. Adaptive Temperature, Clean Energy Guidance and home key are Apple Home features regardless.

## Before the December listings

If you live in the US or Canada, already run Apple Home and need a lock or thermostat in the next few months, put the LG lock and the LG climate products on a shortlist and check two things before December: that you have a Thread-enabled Apple home hub, and whether your HVAC system has a common wire. If you split control between Apple Home and another platform, favor shipping Matter devices with documented multi-platform support until LG and Schneider publish theirs.

UK buyers can choose only the cameras and doorbell, which makes the collection an Apple Home camera decision there. The open question for everyone is which LG products slip to early 2027; Apple's December listings should answer it.
