Its Ultra Wideband radio can unlock the door as an eligible phone approaches, using Xthings Home without a separate hub. That is the feature that distinguishes this lock, not the Matter badge. The physical keypad and keyway remain useful fallbacks. There is no fingerprint reader, though, and Apple home key is not supported. An iPhone owner gets approach unlocking through ULTRALOQ's app, but not the familiar option of tapping an Apple Wallet key against the lock. Matterhome has not tested Bolt Mission's arrival detection, motor or long-term reliability. ULTRALOQ says UWB uses distance and direction to recognise an approach. Treat that as the manufacturer's design claim, not proof that it will distinguish every doorway, passing person or awkward arrival. ## Android support is too unclear to buy on faith ULTRALOQ's current product-page FAQ says UWB auto-unlock works with UWB-equipped iPhones “as of now.” A separate support article updated in May says the feature works with both Apple and Android phones and then lists compatible Samsung, Google and Motorola hardware. Those statements do not agree. The conservative buying decision is simple: do not buy Bolt Mission for Android UWB until ULTRALOQ reconciles its exact support instructions. Having a UWB radio in a phone is not enough evidence that this lock's Xthings implementation will use it. Android NFC access is a different feature and does not resolve the auto-unlock question. This conflict does not make the lock's Matter path speculative. It makes the headline phone feature a poor Android purchase assumption. ## Matter controls the lock, not the arrival feature The exact `UUL-BOLT-M-NK` has an active Matter-over-Thread path. ULTRALOQ documents scanning the setup code under the battery cover and putting the lock into pairing mode. Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings are named for lock control. Home Assistant is not listed for this exact model, so it should not be bought on an unsupported compatibility assumption. A compatible Matter controller and Thread border router are required for that path. The UWB feature remains inside Xthings Home and needs no additional hub. Remote access through Xthings Home is another route again, requiring ULTRALOQ's Wi-Fi Bridge. One lock therefore has three distinct jobs and requirements: Bluetooth/UWB for the brand app, Thread for Matter, and the optional bridge for remote brand-app control. That separation matters because Matter does not move the approach feature into Apple Home or another controller. Buy the lock for the Xthings UWB experience, then treat Matter as the way to expose ordinary lock control and automations elsewhere. ## A US deadbolt with familiar backups This review covers the satin-nickel-trimmed US variant with SKU `UUL-BOLT-M-NK` and barcode `850056978750`. It replaces a compatible standard US deadbolt. ULTRALOQ excludes glass doors, sliding doors, mortise locks and multipoint locks, so the product name alone does not establish fit. Eight AA batteries are included. The current FAQ estimates six months of everyday use and shows a low-battery warning on the lock. That is a vendor estimate, not a duration we have measured. A future rechargeable pack should not be counted as part of today's package, and the physical key should remain accessible rather than locked inside the house. The exterior keypad is visually busy, with individual number buttons around a large illuminated ring and the keyway in the centre. That design makes the backup methods obvious, but it is less discreet than a flat touchscreen or hidden-cylinder lock. ## At $300, the alternatives are hard to ignore ULTRALOQ listed the exact Matter variant at $299.99 with Add to Cart on September 27, 2026. Its Apple UWB path needs compatible Apple home infrastructure, so Bolt Mission still has a case for an iPhone household that wants approach unlocking without buying another hub.
