# Tapo TP15

Tapo TP15 is another compact direct-Matter Wi-Fi plug in TP-Link's lineup. It makes sense for simple switching if the price is better than P125M, but it is not the pick for energy monitoring or Thread coverage.

## Best For

- Basic lamps and plug-in accessories
- Buyers comparing discounted Tapo mini plugs
- Matter homes without Thread hardware

## Skip If

- You need energy monitoring
- You want a Thread smart plug
- The outlet is in a weak 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi spot

## Setup Notes

- Use the Matter code with a compatible Matter controller.
- Set up on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and keep the Tapo app for firmware updates.
- Confirm the exact model number when comparing TP15 with other Tapo mini plugs.

## Known Limitations

- Matter exposes basic switch control, not every Tapo app schedule or setting.
- It does not help a Thread network because it is a Wi-Fi plug.
- Buyers who need power readings should choose an energy-monitoring model instead.

## Pros

- Direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi setup
- Compact plug for basic outlet control
- No Thread border router or hub required
- Works with major Matter ecosystems listed by TP-Link

## Cons

- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only
- No power monitoring
- Model naming can be confusing beside P125M

## A basic Matter plug under the TP15 name

TP15 fills the same practical role as other compact Tapo Matter plugs: it switches a small load on and off through Matter over Wi-Fi. It does not need a Thread border router and it does not need a separate hub.

The naming is the main thing to watch. TP-Link sells several similar mini plugs, and not all of them have the same energy or Matter features.

## Setup path

Set it up on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, scan the Matter code in your preferred ecosystem, and keep the Tapo app available for firmware. Use clear names if you add several mini plugs, because "plug one" and "plug two" becomes hard to manage quickly.

## What to check

Buy it when the price is right and the job is simple. Skip it for metering, for heavy loads, or for any outlet where Wi-Fi does not reach cleanly.
