# Tapo S515

Tapo S515 is useful when you want a Matter wall switch and Tapo-side energy monitoring for a lighting circuit. It is not the right buy if you expect energy data to appear fully in every Matter app today.

## Ecosystem Support

- Apple Home: Supported
- Google Home: Supported
- Alexa: Supported
- SmartThings: Supported
- Home Assistant: Limited

## Best For

- Neutral-wired lighting circuits where power use is useful
- Tapo users who want Matter sharing from a wall switch
- Rooms where on/off wall control matters more than dimming

## Skip If

- You need dimming
- You need energy readings inside a specific Matter platform and have not tested it
- The wall box lacks a neutral wire

## Setup Notes

- Confirm neutral wiring and compatible load requirements before installation.
- Use the Tapo app for firmware, setup, and energy-monitoring detail.
- Pair with Matter for cross-platform switch control after setup.

## Known Limitations

- TP-Link notes that energy monitoring is not supported by most Matter-enabled apps yet.
- Matter gives the common switch controls, not every Tapo energy or schedule feature.
- Home Assistant support depends on Matter switch and energy support in your setup.

## Pros

- Matter-over-Wi-Fi wall switch
- Energy monitoring in the Tapo feature set
- No hub or Thread border router required
- Keeps physical on/off control for wired lights

## Cons

- Requires neutral wiring
- Energy monitoring is not broadly supported by Matter apps yet
- On/off switch only, not a dimmer

## A metering wall switch

Tapo S515 adds energy monitoring to a direct-Matter Wi-Fi wall switch. That is useful if you want to understand how much a lighting circuit uses or confirm that an attached load is actually drawing power.

The important caveat is portability. TP-Link says energy monitoring is not supported by most Matter-enabled apps yet, so the Tapo app should remain part of the setup.

## Setup path

Verify neutral wiring and load compatibility, then install the switch and connect it to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Use Matter for cross-platform on/off control and Tapo for firmware and power details.

If energy is the buying reason, test one switch with your ecosystem before replacing several.

## What to check

S515 is not a dimmer. It is a stronger version of a basic switch for buyers who care about power readings, but only if they are comfortable keeping Tapo in the loop for those readings.
