# SwitchBot Lock Vision

SwitchBot Lock Vision is a direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi lock for buyers who want SwitchBot's palm vein access without requiring a SwitchBot hub. Treat Matter as the everyday lock-control layer, not as a replacement for SwitchBot's access management.

- Apple Home: Supported
- Google Home: Supported
- Alexa: Supported
- SmartThings: Supported
- Home Assistant: Limited

## Best For

- Homes that want palm vein access and Matter lock control
- Buyers who prefer Wi-Fi over adding Thread infrastructure
- SwitchBot users who want a newer direct-Matter lock

## Skip If

- You want biometric settings inside Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings
- The lock location has weak 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
- You prefer a simpler keypad or key-only retrofit lock

## Setup Notes

- Install and calibrate the lock in SwitchBot before pairing it to Matter.
- Set up backup access methods before relying on palm vein unlock.
- Test Wi-Fi signal at the door while the lock is installed, not on a table nearby.

## Known Limitations

- Palm vein access, detailed logs, and user management are SwitchBot features, not generic Matter features.
- Home Assistant behavior depends on current Matter lock support.
- Bundle names can add accessories without changing the lock's direct Matter path.

## Pros

- Direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi setup with no SwitchBot hub
- Palm vein unlocking is built into the access stack
- Sold as lock-only or with keypad and bridge bundles
- Good fit for buyers who want biometric access plus Matter basics

## Cons

- Biometric setup and management stay in SwitchBot's app
- Matter ecosystems may expose only core lock controls
- Wi-Fi coverage at the door matters more than it does for Thread locks

## Direct Matter with SwitchBot access hardware

SwitchBot Lock Vision combines a Wi-Fi Matter lock with SwitchBot's palm vein access path. The important distinction is that the lock connects to Matter directly, while the richer access setup remains a SwitchBot app job.

That makes it a good fit when the main home app needs lock status and control, but SwitchBot can stay responsible for biometric setup, firmware, and user management.

## Setup path

Start with physical installation and calibration. Then configure backup entry options before handing the lock to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant through Matter.

Because this is Matter over Wi-Fi, you do not need a Thread border router. You do need reliable Wi-Fi at the door and a Matter controller in the ecosystem you plan to use.

## Should you buy it?

Buy it if the biometric access method is useful to your household and you are comfortable keeping SwitchBot's app in the setup. Skip it if you want all lock users, logs, and unlock methods managed only inside your Matter ecosystem.
