A hidden relay is only useful when it solves more than it complicates. SONOFF MINI-1GSP puts direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi switching, bidirectional energy monitoring, and a local browser console into a 39.5 x 33 x 16.8 mm module. It is a strong fit for one known circuit, especially in Home Assistant, but the wiring and the way you want to read energy data matter more than the low purchase price.

Matterhome has not tested MINI-1GSP. This guide is based on SONOFF's current storefront, OpenEdge documentation, user manual, and certification record.

## Matter and OpenEdge do different jobs

The relay can join Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings directly through Matter over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. It needs a compatible Matter controller, but no Thread border router and no SONOFF hub. That is the clean route for ordinary on-off control, voice commands, and shared routines.

OpenEdge is the second local path. Entering the device's IP address opens a browser console for switching, schedules, timers, energy charts, network settings, and protection thresholds without requiring an account or cloud connection. SONOFF also exposes a JSON-RPC 2.0 API over HTTP, WebSocket, and MQTT. Home Assistant gets the most explicit integration promise: the product page documents MQTT Discovery for real-time data and automations.

Those paths complement each other, but they are not interchangeable. The product page does not promise that every Matter app will reproduce OpenEdge's energy history, time-of-use tariffs, data export, or electrical protection settings. Use Matter as the shared control layer. Choose OpenEdge, MQTT, or eWeLink for the richer device work only when that extra path fits the home.

## The meter is useful when its direction is clear

SONOFF says MINI-1GSP measures voltage, current, power, runtime, and energy. It also supports bidirectional metering, so the interface can record a small solar source as generation rather than consumption. In the eWeLink path, the owner can enter electricity rates and review cost reports. In a LAN-only setup, SONOFF says the web console and Home Assistant over MQTT continue to synchronize real-time data.

That makes this more interesting than a relay that happens to report watts. A balcony solar circuit, water heater, dehumidifier, or other measurable load can produce useful automation data. It is still worth testing the sign of imported and generated power, reporting intervals, recovery after a restart, and the exact entities available in the chosen platform before relying on the totals.

## The wall box sets the hard limits

MINI-1GSP needs a neutral conductor and 100-240 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz. SONOFF rates it for a maximum 16 A resistive load and specifies 0.75-2.5 mm² copper conductors. It is intended for concealed indoor installation and operates over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Do not apply the 16 A number to a motor, pump, transformer, or another inductive load without a separate suitability check. Do not assume a compact enclosure guarantees a cool, code-compliant fit. Box depth, conductor bend space, terminal access, heat, overcurrent protection, and local approval all need attention. Use a qualified installer when any part of the mains work is uncertain.

## Prove both paths before scaling

Buy MINI-1GSP when the circuit already has neutral, the load is understood, and local energy data or MQTT makes the extra configuration worthwhile.
