A water heater, underfloor-heating loop, or heat pump is a more serious automation target than a table lamp. SONOFF BASIC-1GSP puts one 32 A single-phase circuit on a standard 18 mm DIN-rail module, switches both live and neutral, and adds metering plus direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi control. At roughly $20, €19.90, or £18 from SONOFF, the device is cheap. The panel work is not.

Matterhome has not tested BASIC-1GSP. This guide is based on SONOFF's current storefronts, manual, support matrix, and the exact model family's Matter 1.4 certification. A qualified electrician still needs to decide whether the unit, load, protection, and installation method are acceptable where it will be used.

## A 32 A rating is not an installation plan

The exact model is `BASIC-1GSP`, and SONOFF's current store SKU is `6979033600379`. It accepts single-phase 100-240 V power at 50 or 60 Hz, measures `84 x 66.5 x 18 mm`, and uses separate live and neutral terminals on both the supply and load sides. The double-pole relay opens both conductors instead of leaving neutral connected.

SONOFF requires an upstream 32 A miniature circuit breaker or a residual-current breaker with integral overcurrent protection that complies with national standards. The manual specifies 4 to 10 mm² copper conductors, warns against reversing live and neutral, and says installation and maintenance belong with a professional electrician. It also rejects multi-phase power.

Those constraints matter more than the examples on the product page. SONOFF names EV charging, water heating, floor heating, heat pumps, and major appliances as possible jobs, but the product label alone does not prove that a particular load, panel, conductor, breaker, or local code allows the installation. Give the electrician the manual and exact circuit details before ordering several units.

Energy monitoring has its own wiring dependency. SONOFF says the load neutral must be connected to the output neutral terminal for metering to work. The eWeLink app can then show voltage, current, power, daily and longer-term consumption, cost estimates, and up to 180 days of records. It can also export usage data and apply current, voltage, and power thresholds.

The five logos do not mean identical data. SONOFF's current platform matrix lists remote control, voice control, and scenes across all five ecosystems. Power statistics are checked only for SmartThings and Home Assistant. Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa buyers should expect a switch through Matter and plan to open eWeLink for consumption detail.

Even SmartThings and Home Assistant do not inherit every vendor feature. SONOFF documents 180-day history, electricity-cost records, exports, charging protection, configurable overload thresholds, logs, and several recovery settings inside eWeLink. Matter is the common control layer. The vendor app remains the maintenance and detailed-metering layer.

## Approve the circuit before ordering

BASIC-1GSP makes sense when a qualified electrician has already approved one single-phase DIN-rail circuit, the panel has reliable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and simple cross-platform switching is useful. SmartThings and Home Assistant get the strongest documented Matter fit because SONOFF also exposes current power statistics there.

Skip it when the installation plan starts with the 32 A headline rather than the circuit design. Also skip it when energy history must live entirely in Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa, or when an unnamed UL or ETL listing makes local acceptance uncertain.
