A phone alert is useful when nobody is near the siren, but it is not the safety system. Sensereo's $69.99 MSC-1 combines a photoelectric smoke sensor, an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor, an 85 dB local alarm, and a small CO display. Matter over Thread adds app visibility and automations without taking over the alarm's core job.

That combination makes the MSC-1 unusual. It also makes the regional label and alarm plan more important than the Matter logo. Sensereo sells `SN-MSC1-V1-EU` now and says orders ship within 24 hours. Sensereo lists this version as certified for European markets under EN 14604 and EN 50291, while U.S. UL certification remains in development. Matterhome has not tested the alarm.

## Check the safety fit before the smart-home fit

The alarm works as a standalone detector without a hub or internet connection. Low battery produces a red flash and beep every 60 seconds, plus a remote warning where supported. The CR123A battery powers both detection and communication on MSC-1, so replace it promptly and repeat the physical self-test. A fault indication that persists after reset is a reason to contact Sensereo or replace the alarm, not to trust a healthy-looking Matter tile.

Choose MSC-1 when one European-market alarm needs to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide, a Thread border router is already available, and direct alarm interlinking is not required. Sensereo's $49.99 MS-1 is the narrower option when smoke detection is enough, although it has its own battery and interlinking tradeoffs.

Skip the MSC-1 when local code requires another listing, hardwiring, or linked sirens. The strongest buying case is not remote control. It is a locally functioning combination alarm whose extra Matter alerts have been tested in the household's real platform before anyone depends on them.
