# Nuki Keypad 2 NFC

Nuki Keypad 2 NFC is the accessory to buy when tap-to-unlock is part of the Nuki lock plan. It is most persuasive for Apple Home or Samsung SmartThings households that meet the wallet-key requirements.

## NFC is the reason to choose this keypad

Keypad 2 NFC is the more specific Nuki accessory. Like the regular Keypad 2, it can add PIN and fingerprint entry. The reason to spend more is tap-to-unlock with compatible Apple or Samsung wallet paths.

It still depends on the lock. Nuki says Keypad 2 NFC needs a compatible Nuki Smart Lock, including Matter-capable Ultra, Pro, Go, and 4th-generation locks. The paired lock is the Matter device.

## Two access modes, different expectations

Nuki describes an app mode and a Smart Home Mode. App mode uses Nuki permissions and does not need extra smart home hardware for tap-to-unlock. Smart Home Mode connects the feature to Apple home key or Samsung Digital Home Key, which means the Matter-capable lock, the smart home ecosystem, and compatible phone or watch hardware all matter.

That is why this accessory is not equally useful in every ecosystem. Apple Home and SmartThings are the clear NFC stories. Google Home, Alexa, and Home Assistant can still control the paired lock through Matter, but NFC wallet unlock is not their feature here.

## Buy it after the lock decision

Settle the lock first. If the door needs Smart Lock Ultra, Pro, Go, a 4th-generation lock, or the North American deadbolt, choose that hardware on fit and Matter requirements. Add Keypad 2 NFC only when the access method is worth the extra cost.
