# Kasa KS205

Kasa KS205 is a practical direct-Matter wall switch when the box has neutral wiring and the circuit is a simple single-pole light. It is not the right switch for dimming, three-way circuits, or mystery wiring.

## Ecosystem Support

- Apple Home: Supported
- Google Home: Supported
- Alexa: Supported
- SmartThings: Supported
- Home Assistant: Limited

## Best For

- Replacing a standard single-pole light switch
- Kasa users who want Matter control without a bridge
- Rooms where wall control matters more than smart bulbs

## Skip If

- The wall box does not have a neutral wire
- The circuit is three-way or multi-way
- You need dimming or energy monitoring

## Setup Notes

- Confirm neutral-wire availability and single-pole wiring before buying.
- Turn off power and follow electrical code; use an electrician if the box wiring is uncertain.
- Pair on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and use the Matter code for ecosystem setup.

## Known Limitations

- It is an on/off switch, not a dimmer.
- Matter does not expose every Kasa schedule or device setting.
- Home Assistant behavior depends on Matter integration support for the switch.

## Pros

- Direct Matter-over-Wi-Fi wall switch
- No Kasa hub or Thread border router required
- Keeps normal wall control for existing lights
- Kasa app support for firmware and schedules

## Cons

- Requires a neutral wire
- Single-pole switch only
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only

## A standard switch with Matter

Kasa KS205 is the wall-switch version of a basic Matter plug: it gives an existing light circuit on/off control through Matter over Wi-Fi while preserving a normal wall switch.

That makes it a better fit than smart bulbs in rooms where guests expect the wall switch to work. It also makes wiring the first buying question.

## Setup path

Check the box before ordering. KS205 requires neutral wiring and is meant for a standard single-pole circuit. If the wiring is unclear, solve that with an electrician instead of guessing from wire colors.

After installation, use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and pair through Matter for Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant.

## What to check

Use this for on/off lighting. If the existing switch controls a dimmable fixture, a three-way circuit, or a fan and light combination, choose a switch designed for that job instead.
