The driver can switch and dim up to eight compatible light units, provided their combined load stays within 30 W. Matter over Thread lets a suitable controller run that lighting without making DIRIGERA a compulsory extra. That recommendation is deliberately narrow. This is a 24 V driver for compatible IKEA integrated lighting, not a universal way to make any low-voltage strip smart. IKEA does not advertise independent port control, so buy it to run a lighting group rather than assuming every connected unit becomes its own zone. ## The £15 price leaves out the cord The UK driver costs £15, but a first installation also needs the separately sold FÖRNIMMA mains cord. At the current £7 price, the useful starting figure is £22 before adding lights or a physical remote. Reusing an existing compatible cord can keep an upgrade at the headline price. The older 30 W TRADFRI driver costs £22 before the same cord. DUBBELKISEL is therefore £7 cheaper on a like-for-like new purchase, while its 205 mm body is 80 mm shorter. The old driver can connect nine light units rather than eight, but both stop at 30 W. One extra connection is a weak reason to give up the lower price, smaller housing and native Matter path. None of that makes a working TRADFRI installation obsolete. If its remote and IKEA hub already provide the control the room needs, replacing it adds cost and setup work without improving the light. DUBBELKISEL is the better new purchase, not an automatic upgrade for every finished kitchen. ## Matter removes the brand hub, not the infrastructure DUBBELKISEL uses Matter over Thread. App control therefore needs both a Matter controller and a Thread border router. DIRIGERA can provide an IKEA route, but IKEA also describes adding the driver to other established systems. Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant all support Matter lighting at the category level, though their detailed controls and automations can differ. That distinction matters at this price. A home with suitable Thread hardware can treat DUBBELKISEL as an inexpensive lighting endpoint. A Wi-Fi-only home should include the controller and border-router cost before calling it a £15 smart-lighting project. ## Leave room around a hidden installation The slim white housing and two mounting hooks make the driver easier to hide inside a cabinet or wardrobe. Hidden does not mean buried. IKEA's assembly instructions say not to cover the power supply with building insulation and require 200 mm clearance from combustible building material when it is recessed into a wall or ceiling. Up to ten drivers can be linked in one installation with intermediate cords, but each driver retains its own eight-unit and 30 W limits. Add the wattage of the exact lights, keep the driver accessible and follow the mounting instructions rather than choosing a cavity solely because it is out of sight. DUBBELKISEL is easy to recommend when compatible IKEA lighting and Thread are already in the plan. Budget for the cord, respect the load and clearance limits, and keep an existing TRADFRI setup if it is already doing the job.
