# IKEA DIRIGERA Hub

DIRIGERA is the hub to buy when you want IKEA Home smart to remain the center of the setup and Matter to share devices outward. It is less compelling if you only want direct Matter accessories and already have a Thread border router from Apple, Google, SmartThings, or Home Assistant.

- Use a Matter controller in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant to consume the bridged devices.

## Known Limitations

## A bridge, not just another accessory

DIRIGERA is the control center for IKEA Home smart. Its Matter role is a bridge role: IKEA says smart products connected to DIRIGERA can be compatible with Matter platforms. That makes it useful for a home that already likes IKEA's app, remotes, scenes, and low-cost accessories, but wants basic control to appear in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant.

The buyer risk is assuming that bridge means full feature portability. Matter moves the common controls and states. IKEA-specific settings, setup flow, and firmware handling still belong in the IKEA Home smart side of the system.

## Setup path

DIRIGERA needs a Wi-Fi network, but the hub itself connects to your router with the provided cable. Set it up in the IKEA Home smart app, add the IKEA devices there, then use the Matter path when you want those products visible in another ecosystem.

The same hub is also the simplest IKEA-named Thread border router option for IKEA's direct Matter-over-Thread devices. That does not make it mandatory for every buyer. If your home already has a supported Apple TV, HomePod, Nest device, SmartThings hub, or Home Assistant Thread setup, direct pairing may be the cleaner route for some devices.

## Where it fits

DIRIGERA makes sense when IKEA is more than a one-device experiment. A set of bulbs, a few sensors, and remote controls are easier to manage when the IKEA app remains available for grouping and device-specific behavior.

It is a harder sell if you are buying a single KAJPLATS bulb or MYGGBETT contact sensor and already have the Matter and Thread infrastructure. In that case, the device may pair directly to your existing Matter ecosystem without another box.

## Should you buy it?

Buy DIRIGERA as an IKEA Home smart hub first and a Matter bridge second. Skip it if the goal is a hub-free Matter setup, or if you need proof that every bridged IKEA feature will behave the same in your chosen app.
