# Eve Motion

Eve Motion is a practical Matter motion sensor when you already have Thread coverage where the sensor will sit. It is best for lighting and presence automations, while light-level behavior and tuning should be verified in the ecosystem you actually use.

## Ecosystem Support

- Apple Home: Supported
- Google Home: Supported
- Alexa: Supported
- SmartThings: Supported
- Home Assistant: Supported

## Best For

- Hallway, stair, entry, and utility-room lighting automations
- Outdoor-adjacent motion triggers with Thread coverage
- Buyers who want motion and brightness context in one sensor

## Skip If

- You do not have a Thread border router
- You need the sensor to improve the Thread mesh
- Your platform cannot use light level the way your automation requires

## Setup Notes

- Mount or place it within reliable Thread range.
- Use a Matter controller with Thread border router support.
- Check whether your chosen ecosystem exposes the light sensor in useful automation triggers.

## Known Limitations

- Some platforms may expose motion more clearly than light level.
- Eve app settings for sensitivity, motion duration, and history are not universal.
- Outdoor placement still needs realistic Thread range and weather exposure judgment.

## Pros

- Matter over Thread motion sensor
- Includes light level sensing
- Indoor and outdoor use with IPX3 rating
- Runs on replaceable AAA batteries

## Cons

- Needs a Thread border router
- Battery device does not extend the Thread mesh
- Sensitivity, duration, and history are Eve app features

## Buy it for the automation, not the spec list

Eve Motion can trigger lights, scenes, notifications, and presence-based routines. It also measures light level, which is useful when you only want a hallway light after sunset or when a room is actually dim.

That second part is where buyers need to slow down. Motion is widely useful. Light-level exposure and sensitivity controls are more platform dependent.

## Setup path

Eve Motion is a battery-powered Matter-over-Thread endpoint. It needs a Thread border router, and it benefits from powered Thread devices nearby. It will not extend the mesh by itself.

The Eve app is still relevant if you want to tune motion sensitivity, motion duration, or look back at motion and brightness history. Matter gives broader control, but it does not guarantee that every platform app exposes every sensor and setting equally.

## Where it fits

The best placements are rooms where motion should clearly cause something: stairs, hallways, garages, pantries, utility rooms, or a sheltered outdoor spot. The IPX3 rating helps, but it does not remove the need for sensible placement and Thread range.

If the automation depends on brightness, test one sensor before buying many. A motion trigger without the right light condition can be annoying very quickly.

## Should you buy it?

Buy Eve Motion when the desired automation is obvious and you have Thread coverage nearby. Skip it if you need a sensor that is also a Thread repeater, or if your platform cannot use the light-level data you care about.
