# Eve Light Switch (US Matter version)

Eve Light Switch is worth considering for an Apple Home household that already uses Thread and wants schedules stored on the switch. For ordinary hallway lighting, Tapo S515 does the same basic job for much less. Eve's premium makes sense only if its app features and Thread connection matter to you.

## What we like

- One switch retains the ordinary companion in a suitable three-way circuit
- Schedules stored on the switch continue without the hub once configured
- Thread control without an Eve account or subscription

## What could be better

- $34.96 more than the current single Tapo S515 offer
- On/off only, with neutral wiring required
- The strongest Eve app extras are documented for iPhone and iPad

## An expensive way to keep familiar hallway controls

Eve Light Switch suits a staircase or hallway where two switches control the same lights. Replace one switch in a suitable three-way circuit and the ordinary companion stays useful. Eve allows either location, provided the required wiring is present. That saves replacing both wall controls, although it does not make Eve the economical choice.

The current single-switch offer is $54.95. A [Tapo S515](/devices/tapo-s515) is $19.99 at the same price check, a $34.96 hardware saving before tax, delivery and installation. Tapo also keeps ordinary companion switches and adds energy tracking in its own app. We would choose it for straightforward on/off lighting unless Thread or Eve's schedule controls are a specific requirement.

## The schedule can live in the switch

Eve's strongest distinction is useful in a home already built around Apple Home. Its iPhone and iPad app can save schedules directly to the switch; Eve says they continue without a phone, hub or internet connection once configured. A regular evening lighting routine therefore need not depend on the hub being available at every scheduled change. That benefit applies to stored schedules, not every automation involving other devices.

The app also offers usage-duration history and status-light settings. Eve documents those extras for this switch through iPhone and iPad. Other listed Matter platforms can control the lights, but we would not pay the premium expecting the same Eve app features there. Matterhome has not tested the switch's responsiveness or reliability.

For the normal Matter home setup, you need a compatible controller and Thread border router. There is no separate Eve bridge, account or subscription. If that infrastructure is already in place, keeping another wall control on Thread is reasonable. Buying it just for this switch makes the cheaper Wi-Fi alternative more compelling.

## Buy for switching, not dimming

This is the 120 V North American model, product 10ECE4151, rather than Eve's differently shaped European switch. It requires neutral wiring and a suitable dry indoor installation. Have a qualified electrician assess the wall box and lighting load before ordering; a neutral elsewhere in the circuit is not enough if it is missing at the chosen switch location.

The broad touch surface turns the lights on or off. It cannot dim them, so a bedroom or dining room where brightness adjustment matters needs a different control. [Eve Dimmer Switch](/devices/eve-dimmer-switch) is worth comparing for that job, with its own circuit restrictions.

Existing owners should also avoid buying replacement hardware just for the Matter logo. Eligible Thread versions of the older US/Canada Light Switch have a free [Matter upgrade through Eve](https://www.evehome.com/en-us/upgrade-to-matter). That route needs an up-to-date iPhone or iPad and compatible Apple Thread home hub; it is irreversible and replaces the old setup code. If the current switch already does everything you need in Apple Home, keeping it as it is costs nothing.
