Smart plugs / Eve

Eve Energy Outlet

Eve Energy Outlet is a cleaner Matter choice than a plug-in module when you want smart control built into the wall. It is best for permanent lamps and appliances, but the wiring requirement and combined energy metering make it less flexible than two separate smart plugs.

Eve Energy Outlet

A cleaner plug, but not a simpler one

Eve Energy Outlet hides the smart plug inside the wall. That is the appeal: no bulky adapter, no lost second outlet, and no device sticking out behind furniture. It also stays powered all the time, so it can help the Thread mesh the way Eve Energy does.

The catch is installation. This is not a renter-friendly shortcut. It needs the right North American wall box and wiring, and anyone unsure about the work should bring in an electrician.

Setup path

Once installed, the Matter path is standard Eve Thread: pair it with a Matter controller that also has Thread border router support. Eve does not require a brand bridge.

The two receptacles can be controlled separately by app, voice, or the physical buttons. Power monitoring is less granular: Eve says consumption is displayed as a combined value for the outlet.

Where it fits

This is a good choice for a nightstand, media console, desk, or utility spot where you know the outlet will stay smart for years. It is also a tidy way to put a powered Thread router node in a room without using a visible plug adapter.

It is a bad fit for temporary automations, appliances that need separate energy data, or any circuit where the wiring is uncertain.

Should you buy it?

Buy Eve Energy Outlet if the installation is straightforward and you want a permanent Matter-over-Thread power point. Skip it if you value portability, separate metering, or the ability to undo the setup in seconds.

Best for

  • Permanent bedside, desk, or living-room outlet upgrades
  • North American homes with neutral and ground wiring available
  • Buyers who want a powered Thread router in the wall

Skip if

  • You rent or cannot change the wall outlet
  • You need separate energy metering for each receptacle
  • Your installation lacks the required wiring or a Thread border router
