# Eve Dimmer Switch

Eve Dimmer Switch is a Matter-over-Thread wall dimmer for people who want regular wired lights to behave like smart lights. It is a stronger pick than a smart bulb when wall control matters, but only if the wiring and bulb load are compatible.

- Home Assistant: Supported

## Best For

- Dimmable wired fixtures in a Thread home
- Rooms where guests still need a normal wall control
- Buyers replacing a single-pole dimmer rather than adding smart bulbs

## Skip If

- Your switch box has no neutral wire
- You want to dim smart bulbs directly
- You are not prepared for professional electrical installation

## Setup Notes

- Eve says only authorized electricians may connect, install, and set up the dimmer.
- The controlled light source must be dimmable.
- A compatible Matter controller with Thread border router support is required.

## Known Limitations

- Dimming thresholds, bulb type settings, and some status LED options depend on the Eve app.
- Smart bulbs should usually be dimmed in their own app, not through a wall dimmer.
- Regional wiring compatibility should be checked before purchase.

## Pros

- Matter over Thread dimmer for hardwired lights
- Powered Thread router node
- Supports dimming setup in the Eve app
- Works without an Eve bridge

## Cons

- Requires a neutral wire
- Replaces a single-pole switch
- Not a good dimmer for smart bulbs

## The job is wired dimming

Eve Dimmer Switch is for a regular light circuit, not for making a smart bulb smarter. It replaces the wall dimmer, controls the load directly, and exposes that control through Matter over Thread. The physical switch remains useful for guests and anyone who does not want to ask an assistant to set the lights.

The value is strongest in rooms where the light should always be reachable from the wall and still participate in scenes.

## Setup path

This is an electrical project. Eve lists a neutral-wire requirement and says installation should be handled by an authorized electrician. The fixture also needs to be dimmable, and the dimmer needs to be matched to the load.

For Matter, you still need a Thread border router. The dimmer is mains powered, so after setup it can help relay Thread traffic for nearby battery devices.

## Ecosystem caveats

Basic dimming is the part Matter should carry well. The more specific behavior, such as bulb-type tuning, dimming thresholds, duration statistics, and status LED settings, belongs to the Eve app.

That distinction matters if you plan to run the home from Alexa, SmartThings, or Home Assistant alone. The light may work, but the installer may still need the Eve path for a polished dimming setup.

## Should you buy it?

Buy it for a normal dimmable circuit where the wiring checks out. Skip it if the room already uses smart bulbs, the fixture is not dimmable, or you are trying to avoid a proper electrical installation.
